my favorite thing about the new year is that it feels like a fresh start but also we seem to forget throughout the year that you can start fresh every day. every day is a new day, every month is a new month and the new year is a nice reminder of that. we can always start again and again !!!

merry christmas eve to all who celebrate!

i’ve been extremely MIA this month due to traveling, health reasons and just trying to regroup/ get it together. I was down bad with a 103.2 degree fever and miraculously recovered just in time for the holiday brass in alaska (like truly miraculously but obviously it was a scramble to get it together to go and be able to play an insanely demanding program).

i just got back on sunday afternoon and have been just feeling so inspired and motivated overall !! (and exhausted from my 6am flight still)

practicing alone —> with others 🤍 so grateful to have been able to play this with such amazing artists in such a beautiful place.

first time taking this one for a spin and little clip showing how i practice things sometimes —

** i try to play things at least 3-5x without making a mistake in a row so i really feel like i locked it in

** when im preparing for anything i try to practice something that involves higher range or lines that are longer so i can practice endurance and range and the other thing i am preparing will feel a lot easier (and it always does!!)

I’m so particular about my piccolo sound, but when I feel like it sounds good it’s so satisfying because the piccolo is so difficult to make sound really warm light and pretty

i keep deleting instagram and i’ll redownload it a week later or so, it’s a super nice break i would suggest everyone try it sometime :)

been doing basically this for 15 minutes now !!!

starting basic and slow when jumping back into playing; wanting my technique to be easy and effortless.

+ trying to maintain ease and have control going down and up while tonguing and working on clarity.

+repeating over and over again to make sure it sounds clear and for accuracy and consistency practice

cannot believe it is july 1st time is flying by!!! just finished finals a few weeks ago for my doctorate program and been practicing really random stuff playing lots of piano (not well but it’s so so fun)! lots of changes in life coming up in the next few weeks but feeling excited about it.

i hope everyone knows how vulnerable it can be to post practice vids !!! i think it can be helpful to show the process especially when it comes to widening our perspective and challenging unrealistic expectations of perfection we often try to hold ourselves to (that which does not exist).

whenever I start to struggle / get frustrated learning stuff like this, I know that I need to just do tone bending for probably a week or two and not do anything else, but my ADHD makes me so impatient that I will literally do anything to get out of playing fundamentals but I think that I will challenge myself starting tomorrow I will not practice anything other than tone bending and fundamentals.
